Think Leather, Think Bengal: AILPA 2.0

The second edition of the All India Leather Products & Allied (AILPA) Sourcing Fair, held from 28–30 October at New Town Exhibition Centre, Kolkata, brought together manufacturers, exporters, machinery suppliers and international buyers.

Organised by the Indian Leather Products Association (ILPA), the fair attracted at least 50+ overseas buyers from Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Australia, strengthening Bengal’s global leather industry presence. Italian Consul General Giuliano Fragnito also visited to discuss Italy–West Bengal industry collaboration.

The exhibition showcased genuine and synthetic leather, footwear materials, metal hardware, specialised linings, sustainable tanning solutions, eco-friendly chemicals and automated cutting machinery.

Seminars covered sustainability and EUDR compliance, while German trend expert Martin Wuttke presented Spring/Summer 2027 and Autumn/Winter 2027–28 forecasts.

West Bengal’s leather exports are valued at approximately Rs 5,000 crore, supporting around five lakh jobs, including two lakh at Bantala Leather Complex. ILPA believes improved infrastructure could double turnover and employment. India’s leather exports are expected to cross USD 8 billion in 2026–27.
